"The Wire" is a tremendous achivement. It's not only one of the best shows in television history, it's a work of social commentary that will live on for generations.
Some say "The Wire" tops "The Sopranos" as the best show in HBO's history. High praise, indeed. It's certainly one of our favorites and we see it as one of the best TV shows ever along with "Breaking Bad" and "The Sporanos."
If you haven't seen the series, then go watch it now and don't waste your time with this fan page. There's no use in spoiling your viewing experience. On the other hand, if you're a fan, check it out. We know we can't get enough of this show, and we always love to read and learn more about it.
As noted above, "The Wire" was so much more than a brilliant and entertaining crime drama. It presented powerful social commentary about the decline of our inner cities due to the scurge of drugs and our ridiculous drug war.

TV Power Rankings: February 2007We finally got things right and put "The Wire" into the top spot as the best show on television in this version of our power rankings. This amazing HBO crime drama flew under the world's (and our) radar for far too long.

Now that “Breaking Bad” has completed its remarkable five-year run, there’s a good chance that some people are rethinking their decision to christen “The Wire” as the best show in television history, but for our money, the HBO crime drama still owns the top spot. A gritty, intelligent, complex and well-acted series that fired on all cylinders throughout most of its five seasons, “The Wire” represents TV drama at its finest, anchored by a fantastic ensemble cast that rivals “Game of Thrones” in its sheer size and ability to squeeze great performances out of even the smallest roles. Digitally re-mastered in a new 16:9 widescreen ratio and broadcast in its entirety earlier this year, the complete series makes its Blu-ray debut just in time for Father’s Day. Though some have argued that the change from the original 4:3 ratio disrespects the show’s intended visual composition, it’s something that will likely only bother a select few, because it looks absolutely stunning. Many of the included extras have been carried over from the previous DVD release, but there is a brand new cast and crew Q&A from the Paley Center for Media’s reunion panel that’s a must-watch for all fans of the show.
The casting for this series is simply flawless. The show features a large ensamble cast over five seasons, and you'd be hard-pressed to find one weak link.
Michael B. Jordan (Wallace)
Jordan was a teenager when he played the pivotal character of Wallace in Season 1. He was brilliant as the good kid wanted to get out of the game.
Jim True-Frost (Roland "Prez" Pryzbylewski)
We spoke with Jim about his portrayel of Prez in the amazing Season 4 of "The Wire." His character finds himself in an environment where he has no idea how to succeed.
Robert F. Chew (Prop Joe)
Robert Chew played east Baltimore drug dealer Proposition Joe who had quite a knack for turning a phrase. He played the part beautifully, making Prop Joe one of the wittiest characters on the show. Sadly he passed away in 2013. He's pictured below on the right:
