Music videos have had quite a roller coaster ride over the years. In the early 80s, videos took over the music businesses, with artists like Madonna becoming stars with music videos. Then over time, the impact of music videos waned as MTV moved on to other types of programming. But then with the Internet and YouTube the music video genre started to have a comeback. Now YouTube is one of the primary ways artists can break through and build a following.
